    Description of the position –
    A Landscape Crew Member performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, installation and maintenance of quality landscapes. They are courteous, responsible and dependable. Crew Members adhere to all Hittle’s safety guidelines and have a positive, can-do attitude. Crew Members are the face of Hittle and should be respectful and courteous.

    Landscape Crew Member Responsibilities-
    o Utilize a variety of hand and power tools in landscape maintenance work such as line trimmers and pruners

    o Operate mowers, tractors, trenchers, vehicles and equipment

    o Water plants; mow grass; trim trees and bushes

    o Install bulk mulch; plant flowers, shrubs and trees

    o Rake leaves and clean walks, fields, courts etc.

    o Represent Hittle Landscaping in a positive manner

    o Snow removal in the winter

    Landscape Crew member Qualifications –
    o Ability to properly lift heavy materials, stoop, bend, stand

    o Knowledge of uses and purposes of general construction and maintenance tools and equipment; safe work practices

    o Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance activities; perform heavy manual labor; understand and carry out directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    Experience and Driver’s license preferred but not required.

    – Builds features such as retaining walls, seat walls, water features, pathways, pergolas and firepits

    We are seeking a FULL-TIME Irrigation Installation Crew Member.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Ability to work within a team on irrigation installation projects from start to finish
    • Knowledge of site layout, installation, and final adjustment
    • Knowledge of piping, fittings, valves, wiring, controllers, backflow, irrigation heads and sensors
    • Digging holes to access pipes and covering after completion

    Valid driver’s license preferred

    Hittle’s proven process begins with a thorough understanding of a project’s scope of work and the Construction / Landscape Field Estimator is often the first team member on site to inspect existing conditions and gather information necessary to ensure exacting standards are met and a project is bid responsibly.

    The ideal candidate has a passion for using their skills and talents to consistently deliver excellence to internal and external clients of Indiana’s largest family-owned landscape company.  The Construction / Landscape Field Estimator serves several divisions within the Hittle organization including Commercial Maintenance, Production Homes, Outdoor Living Design/Installation, and Irrigation Installation.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Conduct site visits to gather and compile take-off data for use in developing accurate, competitive, and profitable bid proposals for a variety of landscape projects ranging from  $5,000 to over $3,000,000.

    • Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects.

    • Prepare written scope of work for presentations.

    • Assist in new business development, sales to existing clients and vendor relationships.

    • Read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other bid documents.

    • Produce desired profit goals and margin per budgets.

    • Regularly review direct expenses with Division Leaders to satisfy budget and customer.

    • Keep controllable indirect expenses in line with actual revenue produced.

    • Work together with teammates in accomplishing tasks and goals.

    • Think and communicate “outside of the box” solutions.

    • Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    What’s needed to succeed:

    • Landscape or construction background is a must.

    • 2-4 Years estimating experience.

    • Strong computation skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel.

    • Ability to learn and operate multiple computer programs, including take-off software.

    • Ability to read construction blueprints and successfully bid and assist in managing project

    • Able to work independently and/or on a team in field and office environments.

  • Landscape Construction Foreman

    OVERVIEW 

    This position exists to assist the Field Manager in ensuring that all projects are complete within budgeted hours, by job specifications and in accordance with proper quality standards. Also to provide assistance with project preparation and scheduling with the primary focus on day-to-day field management of landscape projects. More specifically, responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

    LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK

    • Use strong leadership skills to build teamwork, high moral and a skillful workforce.

    • Assist in managing, overseeing, providing training and being a mentor to the Crew Leaders

    • Take personal responsibility for your own leadership development.

    • Assist in creating each crew’s schedule that promotes the best crew efficiency while maintaining the customer’s expectations.

    • The Landscape Construction Foreman performs site visits on a regular basis to ensure job scope & production standards are met.

    • Assist with daily performance evaluations to confirm each project is being completed on budget.

    • Give recognition for good performance and effectively counsel poor performance.

    • Assist in completing performance reviews with thorough and objective feedback.

    • Assist in scheduling and overseeing subcontractors.

    • Manage Conflict through a positive approach to each and every issue.

    MANAGING JOB DATA

    • Review the scope of work, proposals and drawings.

    • All work orders must be reviewed and any inadequate or missing information will be reviewed with the Crew Leader.

    • Assist (when needed) in the review and approval of all subcontractor invoices pertaining to the assigned projects.

    SCHEDULING JOBS AND RESOURCES

    • Provide proactive planning and communication of all project schedule dates to all persons involved in the project. Included but not limited to the Field Manager, Account Manager, subcontractors, purchasing department and yard personnel.

    • Schedule locates to be called in a minimum of 3 days prior to any ground breaking services.

    • Assist in making daily adjustments to the schedule based on job completions and changes in the customer’s expectations.

    QUALITY AND SAFETY

    • Maintains a safe environment and identifies and eliminates safety hazards to crew staff, vendors and

    customers.

    • This may include participation and training for programs such as OSHA & EPA and other regulated programs.

    • Meet or exceed and enforce all of the customer’s safety requirements.

    • Ensure availability and enforce the use of all PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).

    COMMUNICATION

    • Prompt and professional communication is the highest priority of all responsibilities in a Field Manger Assistant’s daily routine.

    • Email, texts and voice mails must be responded to in a timely manner.

    • Landscape Construction Foreman will be proactive in their communication regarding project changes in services, start dates, schedule changes, material changes etc. The proactive communicating approach will include but is not limited to Field Manager, Account Managers, Customers, subcontractors and crews.
